East Midlands Airport Lost Luggage ...

The British Airports Authority firmly states that each individual airline is responsible for the safety of any carried luggage.

  • Therefore, report your lost luggage to the Lost Baggage Desk at the airport immediately
You will be required to give a description of your luggage and any content held within it. You will then be issued with a reference number. This number will help you keep either a telephone or online track of the progress in finding your bags.

In most cases airlines don't actually declare your luggage as lost until it's been missing for a certain amount of time. For instance British Airways waits until 21 days has passed until it declares luggage as lost.

Once this time as past you are entitled to start a claim for compensation. Airlines usually state that they are limited by the Montreal Convention to paying passengers around £800 per person in compensation.

It's the airline's responsibility to carry your luggage safely so they have to deal with your claim, even though many will try and make you claim via your travel insurance.

Connecting Flights

It may be, even if you are travelling on several different aircraft during your one journey, that you can check your luggage in just the once.

If so and your luggage is lost, damaged or stolen you're able to claim against any of the airlines that carried it. If you find the airlines try to another, and therefore refuse to handle your claim they are in breach of the Montreal Convention.

Limited Release Tags - LRTs

Limited Release Tags - LRT are attached to certain types of luggage, like for example pushchairs, musical instruments or sports equipment.

This LRT is intended to remove any liability from the airline should the item get damaged, and then the airline refuses the claim because of this LRTs. If this does happen to you remind them of the rules set by the Montreal Convention.

East Midlands Delayed Baggage ...

The Montreal Convention clearly says that passenger's luggage is termed as 'delayed' up until 21 days, then it is reported as missing.

If you are experiencing East Midlands delayed baggage you may be offered an immediate one-off payment, this is to cover emergency purchases like underwear and toiletries.

Or you could be offered a certain amount of money per day, up to a certain number of days. Or you may have to purchase your emergency goods and then you'll be reimburse once you've produced the receipts.

Once the 21 days has past and your East Midlands delayed luggage has still not been recovered then you can start processing your claim for East Midlands lost luggage.

East Midlands Damaged Baggage...

So your claim can be assessed you may need to produce original receipts for both the contents - if claiming - and the luggage itself. Just like an insurance company, the airline's offer of compensation is unlikely to match that of your actual claim.

If it's just the luggage you are claiming for you are likely to be given a replacement from the airline's store cupboard.

East Midlands Stolen Baggage ...

It is very difficult to prove that a certain item that was in your baggage has been stolen, and thus it's very difficult to make a successful claim.

Also consider, when packing your luggage, that airlines have a clause in their terms and conditions stating they don't accept responsibility for perishable or valuable items including cameras, camcorders, mobile phones.

Also consider what the airline considered “items unacceptable as baggage” as again the airline won't offer compensation.
